Ed Hyatt - President of Boston Illumination Group, an independent manufacturer’s rep agency, specializing in stage & studio lighting, control and rigging automation systems.

During the 1980’s his time was split between New York based See Factor Industries, California based Electrotec Lighting and Nocturne Productions. North American and international tours included but not limited to: Aerosmith, Rush, The Cure, Air Supply, Starship, Neil Diamond, John Mellencamp, Roger Waters and U2's Joshua Tree Tour during the filming of Rattle and Hum.

After touring constantly, and too many one-off events to list, Ed returned to his Boston area roots, took a short term position with the Boston ABC affiliate WCVB as a studio Lighting Director before joining Barbizon Light of New England's staff. Following 6 years of systems design work and sales for Barbizon, Ed formed Boston Illumination Group at the end of 1995.

Ed enjoys speaking with students and design professionals about color quality, lighting design, control programming and illumination engineering.

A Member of USITT, IESNA & ESTA, a member of the ESTA Technical Standards’ Photometric Workgroup, is ETCP certified Entertainment Electrician, Cert.#394, and OSHA 30, and previously attained LC status by NCQLP.

Kate Hazen

Graduating from Emerson College, 2003, in Technical Theatre, Kate, went on to work in special events. She acted as the technical project manager and account manager for many private and public events; including private donor events for the Republican National Convention Election Night 2012, Mass General Hospital’s Storybook Ball fundraiser, and internal all hands events for Shire Pharmaceuticals. After 10 years in the event industry, Kate exited special events to add a few years’ experience with lighting for the Residential and Light Commercial sectors. Kate and her family enjoy taking long hikes in the New England region with an ultimate goal of hiking and adventuring many of the National Parks. Recently she has visited Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park…..her sights are now set on Glacier Nation Park in Montana as well as Denali National Park in Alaska.

Rob Strano

Rob graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 2007 with a degree in Technical Theater. He went on to work as an Electrician, Designer, and Programmer for many different organizations before landing at Advanced Lighting & Production Services (ALPS) in 2008 as a shop tech. After advancing to the role of Quality Control Technician, he transitioned into the Head of Intelligent Lighting and Electronics when 4Wall Entertainment acquired ALPS in 2018. Over the years, Rob has also worked with The Lyric Stage company of Boston as their Master Electrician, been the Theater Manager for the Paul M. Alberta Performing Arts Center in Norwood, and advised students with the Watertown Children’s Theater as the Technical Director. Recently, Rob earned his master’s degree of Computer Science in Cybersecurity.

In his spare time, Rob enjoys working with and mentoring high school students in technical theatre. He has become an active part of the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild’s (METG) Annual Drama Festival where he acts as the Technical Director for Norwood High School.

Outside the world of theater, Rob works with his local Cub Scout. As the packs Den Leader, Rob works to help young children develop academic skills, self-confidence, leadership skills, ethics, and citizenship skills that will influence their adult lives. When not participating in Cub Scouts, sports, or the arts, Rob and his children enjoy spending time at their family cabin in Maine enjoying the lake life.
